What is a chaplain?

A chaplain at Camp Woody has many different assignments. Throughout the week, they provide 2 messages a day that align with the summer's theme while presenting the gospel. They also have the chance to interact with campers and join in on all the activities going on!

What does a chaplain plan for?

The chaplain for the week is in charge of the messages provided at the 2 chapel services a day (1 morning, 1 evening). They have the freedom to insert skits, games or activities in with their message; as well as make song suggestions for worship. Something that is very helpful is prepared questions for group discussions so they align with the message of the week.

The chaplain should also feel free to hold service outside of the chapel building. The beach, around the campfire or at low or high inspiration are great places. Where better to hear the word of God than in his creation?

What does a chaplain do when not teaching?

We understand your "job" each day isn't much longer than 2 hours. But outside of the chapel we encourage you to join in on cabin discussions, get in on game time, or sit and interact with campers at meals. You can even serve by helping out KP (there's always plenty of dishes). We also appreciate the chaplain's presence at your morning and afternoon staff meetings to fill us in on what will be preached.
